Onika Tanya Maraj, more popular by her stage name Niki Minaj, is a rapper and singer-songwriter from New York City. She gained commercial success with the release of her debut album Pink Friday in 2010. The album topped the U.S. Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) a month after its release. Niki Minaj is the only artist to have had seven songs in the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Her super hit single ‘Your Love’, reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart, turning her into the first female artist to top the chart unaccompanied since 2002. She was also the first female artist to be included on MTV’s Annual Hottest MC List.
Born on born December 8, 1984, in a suburb of Trinidad and Tobago, Minaj moved to Queens borough of New York City with her mother at the age of five. In 2003, she graduated from LaGuardia High School. Releasing her first mixtape Playtime Is Over in 2007, second Sucka Free in 2008 and Beam Me Up Scotty in 2009, Minaj got discovered by popular American rapper Lil Wayne and signed a deal to Young Money Entertainment with distribution from Universal Motown in August 2009.
